Well as the name suggests, we are rovers who like motor sport. We annually hold an event called Bush Baja which is designed for off road driving style of motor khana to give the rovers an opportunity to practice their skills by entering specialty vehicles in a number of tests and obstacles.
After five years with out an event, it was re-introduced in 2006 after seeking outside insurance cover with the Confederation of Australian Motor Sport (CAMS) to enable us to run our event once again.
So we had to from a car club which is called Rover Scout Motorsport - Western Australia which allowed us to run as many events as we like. All people need to do is pay for the appropriate licence which is a Level 2 Non Speed (L2NS) which costs around $50.00 for the year which isn't to hefty as you can use it to compete with other clubs’ events if you wish.
Basically the role of Rover Scout Motorsport is to deal with the administration side of the motor sport events we want to run and organise other events other then Bush Baja which has it's own Event Chairman and committee.
We deal with CAMS and organise the supplementary and standing regulations which covers certain points such as the types of vehicles you can use, membership requirements and all the nitty gritty that’s is associated running safe events.
Rover Scout Motorsport gives Scouting a good promotional tool as many other car clubs seem surprised when we mention that scouts do motorsport. A lot of the people don’t realise but are more than happy to support Scouting in our endeavours.
